A trip on this delightful steam railway is a must for everyone! The nearest station is just a short walk from the cottage. Stops include Blue Anchor and Minehead, where there are miles of sandy beaches.

The historic castle and picture-postcard village of Dunster with cobbled pavements, yarn market and good shops and restaurants, are definitely worth a visit.

Romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge composed several of his masterpieces while living in West Somerset, including "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" in Watchet, which inspired a splendid sculpture on the Esplanade. Click here for info on the "Watchet Link" to the Coleridge Way.

West Somerset has numerous beaches where anyone can find fossils, such as ammonites and reptile remains around Watchet! UK Fossils Network website is an excellent source of information. Here's a fossil used in a stone wall at East Quantoxhead.

This is Britain's longest National Trail, a spectacular walk along the North coast of Somerset, Devon and Cornwall, which begins in Minehead, about 7 miles from Watchet.
There is plenty to see and do on Exmoor such as horse riding, bird watching, cycling and canoeing. These are some of the wild ponies which roam the moors.
